Caravaggio exhibition opens in Florence

A very special exhibition opens this Saturday May 22 in the Uffizi Gallery. Entitled Caravaggio and the Caravaggesques it will showcase paintings by the great Baroque artist Caravaggio and compare them to works by followers and those influenced by him. The exhibition will include masterpieces such as the famous Bacchus and the Sacrifice of Isaac. In total over one hundred paintings will be on display.

Florence is home to more Caravaggio works than anywhere else in the world, after Rome, so it is fitting for an exhibition marking the fourth centennial of the artist’s death to be displayed in the Uffizi Gallery and the Palatine Gallery at the Pitti Palace. According to the New York Times Caravaggio is now the most popular Italian artist.  Join us at our Masterpieces of the Uffizi Gallery tour where Artviva’s expert art historian guides will be able to tell you more about this magnificent artist. Or, book a private tour of the Uffizi where you will be able to fully understand and appreciate Caravaggio and other Renaissance and Baroque artists.
