So much for the good ol’ days – children in Florence during the Renaissance

The Little Princes – children in the Renaissance.

Cross-dressing toddlers, baby cages, superstitious baby toys, pet monkeys, baby binding, pint-sized cardinals and a range of toddler weaponry that gives a whole new definition to the term ‘infantry’!

This wonderful video gives an interesting insight into the fascinating treatment of children in the Renaissance. This was a time when there was but a short period between being a babe arms to babe armed, when superstitions inspired play things and ‘monkeying about’ was simply just monkey about.

But there were some positive ideas too that have been lost along the way (the changeable sleeves, for instance!).

Travelling with children in Italy? We have a great range of private guided tours for families travelling in Italy. Our wonderful Florence tour guides are great with children and (even more importantly for parents travelling with young ones), children are great with our guides!

On a private guided tour of Florence, our tour guides know how to animate the fascinating history of Florence alive in a way suited to any and every age group.

Our small-group Florence tours are also a great way to see Florence with a family. To see the world’s most famous statue of all times – Michelangelo’s David, we have a skip-the-line Accademia visit -The Original David Tour. To explore some of the world’s greatest 2-dimentional art in one of the top museums with an expert tour guide, we have The Masterpieces of the Uffizi Gallery Tour. Combined with a small-group walking tour of Florence, Original Florence Walk, to hear more about Italian traditions and the fascinating history of Florence with an excellent English-speaking tour guide, we have the Florence tours discounted package, Florence in One Glorious Day (or 2).

There are also great things to do in Tuscany to explore the Tuscan countryside in a small group, or head to the Cinque Terre from Florence in a small group.
