Fiesole: Etruscans, Romans, Florentines…and Native Americans?!

Fiesole, events in Tuscany, unique things to do Tuscany, Florence to Tuscany

Fiesole – charming hilltop town, surrounded by stunning Tuscan panoramas and postcard-worthy views of nearby Florence.

But tonight, this serene Tuscan village town is hosting an event which may seem somewhat out of context – an evening of Native American music performed by the Sacred Drums group!

But cultural exchange is nothing new for this great little Tuscan village town. The foundations of Fiesole are believed to date back to c.a. 8-900 years B.C., established by the Etruscans, and conquered several times by the Romans, the Byzantines and the Florentines themselves, among others.

So charming, Fiesole is mentioned in Boccaccio’s ‘Decameron’ and his poem, ‘Ninfale fiesolano’, as well as in poetry by English poets Robert Browning and Elizabeth Barrett-Browning who spent much time in the area.

This evening’s unique cultural event in Tuscany is to raise funds for an intercultural exchange with the Rosebud and Pine Ridge reserves of the Lakota tribe of South Dakota (U.S.A.), in association with the Wambligleska Association of Florence. And just to continue on the intercultural theme, there will then be a vegetarian buffet dinner at the Fiesole’s Indian restaurant, Ristorante India.
