Art by Women in Florence, Italy

Historically around the world generally, the majority of best-known artists have been men.

However, two local women here in Florence are doing their darndest to promote female artists, at least here in the Renaissance city.

A new book has been written by Jane Fortune and Linda Falcone titled Art by Women in Florence: A Guide to Five Hundred Years.

The book is a pocket guide to women artists in Florence, spotlighting where to find their works in art venues around Florence’s historical city centre. A hands-on resource, the book aims to help people discover art by women artists that is often overlooked.

Art by Women in Florence: A Guide to Five Hundred Years is being launched at 12pm on Monday, 15th October, 2012 at the Sala del Cenacolo in the must-see piazza of Santa Croce in Florence.

In attendance at the launch will be the authors Jane Fortune and Linda Falcone, as well as Prof. Alessio Assonitis, Director of the Medici Archive Project.

Experience the Uffizi Gallery with one of our great guides to see some of the most precious artworks in the world, as painted by some of the greatest (male and female!) artists in history.  And who could forget the most famous bloke in art, Michelangelo’s David? Definately a must-see in Florence.
