For those not lucky enough to have spied Bill Clinton walking the streets of Florence recently (but who are still lucky enough to be in Florence), you can now get face to face with not one, but eleven American presidents.
Or their photographs at least.
The Robert F. Kennedy Foundation, whose European headquarters are located in Florence, will be hosting a photographic exhibition titled, ‘Presidents: Eleven Presidents of the United States of America portraits by Harry Benson in fifteen photographs’.
The exhibit includes candid portraits of every American president since Eisenhower, right through to President Obama.
Benson states, “The photographs of the last eleven presidents of the United States is a part of my personal journey as a photographer over the past 50 years. I tried to capture on film some intimate moments in the life of each of the presidents. This is to capture what is happening at the moment.”
Having photographed big names including Michael Jackson, Princess Diana, Muhammad Ali and the Beatles, Benson states, “My biggest challenge has always been to take a picture that would show that you have never seen before. This was the most difficult to portray in a spontaneous way the Presidents and their families, in a friendly way, human.”
Whilst we are super pleased to see this great exhibit in Florence, last words of thanks go to Benson, who states, “I am grateful to Kerry Kennedy and Robert F. Kennedy Centre for Justice and Human Rights for giving me the opportunity to exhibit my photographs presidential in the beautiful and historic city of Florence.”
In support of the Robert F. Kennedy Centre for Justice and Human Rights, Artviva is offering two special not-for-profit guided tours on Florence on 22nd November, 2012 as part of the Robert F. Kennedy Thanksgiving Weekend in Florence. Our first special Robert F. Kennedy Thanksgiving Weekend in Florence tours is the Thanksgiving Charity Special_Florence_City_and_Accademia_Tour. Our second tour to raise money for the Robert Kennedy Centre is the Uffizi Gallery & Vasari Corridor Tour.
The Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights, in collaboration with the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, presents a photographic exhibition of 15 photographs of the photographer “presidential” Harry Benson. The exhibit is being held at the Tethys Gallery on Via Maggio 58/r in Florence, Italy, on the occasion of the Festival dei Popoli, an international festival of documentary film, now in its 53rd edition. The photos will be some of the lots auctioned in New Florence Opera House Saturday, November 24, 2012, after an open rehearsal of Giacomo Puccini’s Turandot and gala dinner.
