Christmas in Venice: The Presepio

Picture 1 of 19

In the stunning Chiesa Santa Maria Maddalena in Venice, is the 21st exhibition of Presepio made by local Diorama and Presepio-makers.

Situated in the Cannaregio area in Venice, the Santa Maria Maddalena church (known locally as the Chiesa della Maddalena) dates back to 1222. Since that time it has been enlarged, restored, and rebuilt several times and even had bell towers go up and come down again.  The inspiration for the church’s round shape came from the Panthenon in Rome.

Running all throughout December and right up to the 6th January, 2013, the Presepio exhibit is a great thing to visit in Venice over the period of Christmas and New Years in Venice.
