Just for today, we wanted to expand our watery horizons by focusing on something beyond just the shores of Italy, to wade out into unknown seas, awash with wonder but also with worries for many without access to clean, fresh water.
Monday, 22nd March is World Water Day, when you’re asked to be a Blue Jean Baby, and to pop on your Blue Suede Shoes for a True Blue cause.
The World Water Day organisers say:
‘22nd March is World Water Day…and we would like YOU to Go Blue! Why? Because every 20 seconds, a child dies from a water related disease. Just think, that’s almost equivalent to two double-decker buses crashing every hour. So, please join us on World Water Day – wear blue, donate £1 and help us to make a difference. It’s as simple as that!
Just a Drop was launched in 1998 as an international water aid charity. Fiona Jeffery, the charity’s founder, learnt that just £1 can deliver clean water to a child for up to 10 years. Just a Drop was born, based on the premise that if people can be encouraged to give a little then collectively we can make a huge difference.’
