Sweet Tastes of Tuscany: GIUGGIOLE

Sweet Tastes of Tuscany: GIUGGIOLE

These strange delicacies go by the name of giuggiole*.

In season for the shortest while, they look like olives but the inside is more like a super-sweet crunchy green apple!

So sweet are giuggiole, that there is even a saying to describe a saccharine, ‘cheesy’ ending for something –  ‘è finito in un brodo di giuggiole’ (it ended in a broth of giuggiole).
